Because I've started supporting larger monitor sizes, there are now only 5 pictures in each package. This is due to the larger file size of the images.
What's it all about:
The 5 enclosed pictures were rendered in Photoshop with Kai's Power Tools, Terrazzo, Tesselation and a few other nifty texture rendering gadgets. The images are 16 bit color, 832x624, PICT files. They look great on most monitors but tend to suffer with color settings less than "Thousands of Colors".
With #4 I've started making the images in a 15-17" Monitor format (832x624). I've also contemplated making future versions in JPEG format, but the compression just doesn't do the image(s) justice. Too bad the Desktop Picture control panel only supports JPEG and PICT. We'll just have to deal with the slightly larger file sizes for now.
Requirements:
・ MacOS Computer running OS 8 with the Desktop Pictures control panel installed.
・ or a MacOS Computer running System 7.x.x with either Decor, DeskPicture, or some other desktop pic utility. Links are provided below.
・ or a Wintel Computer running any version of Windoze and an image converter (you really should get a Mac ya know).
note: The Desktop Pictures control panel that comes with OS 8 has randomizing capabilities of it's own. Just drop a folder of pictures onto it's display and you'll see what I mean (or option+click the select picture button and select a folder).
To install (under OS 8):
1. Put the KG Desktop Pictures folder wherever you'd like (preferably I put it in the root directory, same as the System and Applications folder).
2. Open the Desktop Pictures Control Panel from the Apple Menu.
3. Click the Picture button to get the Desktop Picture Options.
4. Option-click the Select Picture button (if you have a pic set already you'll need to click Remove Picture) in the control panel and choose the KG Desktop Pictures folder, or, alternatively, drag it onto the picture of the desktop (in the control panel), then click Select Desktop.
note: this will give you a random desktop picture everytime you restart, the picture is chosen from the selected folder. If you prefer to set the desktop to just one picture you may do so as well by normally clicking Select Picture.
5. Select "Position Automatically" from the pop-up menu if you have a 13, 14, 15, or 17" monitor. If you have a larger monitor, you may want to experiment with the positioning settings.
6. Click the Set Desktop button, the picture should now appear as your desktop background.
To install on other platforms:
You'll just have to figure it out on your own. You're smart, and I have faith in you. With that gentle reassurance, you are now set to tackle the task at hand. =P
